Parents and Kids:
Meet Mateo and Cientina for Cartoon Adventures

Get Involved and Earn Prizes

January 19, 2007

Make two new friends in the pages of La Oferta on February 2: Mateo and Cientina. These curious kids dig into interesting questions about the world around them. To get answers, they try experiments and activities that increase their understanding of science and mathematics. And, they want you and your family to join in the fun.

Do your own activities at home
The Adventures of Mateo and Cientina is sponsored by the Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) at UC Berkeley and the National Science Foundation. These cartoons have been created especially for La Oferta. Every other week for 20 weeks this sister and brother will explore a question in either science or mathematics. The cartoons will outline simple activities that can be done at home.

Become part of Mateo’s and Cientina’s “family” by sending in your answers
Mail your response to the activity described in the cartoon and you will receive a family pass to LHS, The Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, and The Hackworth IMAX® Dome Theater, and other prizes.

The cartoons are part of the project Science and Math in the Spanish-Language Media. This program includes family science and math classes to be held at local sites including classes at The Tech Museum in downtown San Jose. Your response to the cartoon activities assures that you will receive information about these workshops and events.

Each cartoon is also available online.
